In Search of How People Modify Essay

How people intentionally change addictive behaviours with

minus treatment is not well understood simply by behavioral

researchers. This article summarizes research on self-initiated and professionally caused change of addictive

behaviors using the essential transtheoretical constructs of

levels and techniques of transform. Modification of addictive

manners involves development through five stages—precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, and

maintenance—and individuals commonly recycle through

these stages several times prior to termination of the addiction. Multiple studies provide strong support for these

stages as well as for a finite and common set of change

procedures used to progress through the periods. Research

thus far supports a transtheoretical type of change that

systematically combines the levels with procedures of

change from diverse theories of psychotherapy.
